Crete, Greece

We became tourists today, met some lovely local people and made new friends who will be supporting our mission to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease.

Stopped at a beautiful town called Georgioupolis. Had a wonderful hour and a half stop at a family-owned restaurant. The owner’s son was our waiter and spent a lot of time with us regarding our journey. His name is Adonis Markakis. He plans to have his friends and family follow us on our mission.

  1. I heard that Ed and Zvi have arrived at Crete safely, looks like some beautiful weather there for the next few days. Crete is about as long as New Jersey and about 35 to 40 miles wide and has an interesting past. It’s the largest and most populous of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It actually occupies an area south and east of the Greek mainland. The inhabitants of Crete go back thousands of years and was the center of Europe first advanced civilization called the Minoans. Historically, Crete was ruled by Rome, then the Byzantine Empire, the Andalusian Arabs, the Venetian Republic, the Ottoman Empire and then became part of Greece in December of 1913.

Aside from the beaches, the island is mostly mountainous. You can see by the pictures of how beautiful the area is.

I was attending a birthday party on Sunday and got the chance to tell everyone there about the “flyforthecure.org mission and I’m happy to say produced a few donations! Keep that in mind when you’re with family and friends. Bring up this adventure for the Cure of Alzheimer’s disease with a little shameless advertising for this fundraiser. It worked for me it may work for you too!

Our Airmen are off to the Mideast on Tuesday, then eyes turn to the tricky weather of India, Thailand and Singapore in the coming weeks.

Please feel free to leave reply or any questions you may have.

  3. I’m Tracking the flight and I see they landed in Al Ain Abu Dhabi at around 10:20 PM Tuesday October 11 2022 (2:20 PM EST). Looks like they had about a 12 hour flight.
