Sunday in Cascais

We had a good day today, drove to Lisbon. Many of the stores are closed on Sunday but it was a very beautiful ride along the bay of Cascais (Atlantic ocean). Had another great dinner in Cascais. We just got back to our hotel a little tired. Will continue updating tomorrow.

Left around 8 AM to Lisbon. We decided that it would be almost impossible to get out of the aircraft wearing are immersion suits. We did wear them over the Atlantic but we felt the Pacific will not be an issue. We still have our 4 person raft, lifejackets and an emergency satellite device that records our names and aircraft whereabouts in a minute or two. They don’t weigh very much but take up a an awful lot of space. We sent them home via FedEx.

The rest of the day we acted as tourists and went to the town of Sintra. We stopped at numerous shops and explained our mission for Alzheimer’s disease and I feel the people we met will contribute thru our website.

We are not much on port wine but when in Portugal you do have to give it a try. Sintra is also famous for its Portuguese cake which we tried and do agree it is a great tasting cake. We stopped back in Cascais for light lunch. Staying at our hotel for dinner.

Returned our rental car today and were told the food is quite good at our hotel so we are eating in tonight. Tomorrow we depart around 9 AM local to Sardinia. The weather forecast looks quite good; we pick up a tail wind once we cross the Iberian Peninsula. Our friend Steve Pellettiere checked in on us and gave us the weather report for tomorrow.

Never saw so many types of Sardines.

  1. Great to hear Guys!

I know Ed and Zvi are touring as they spread the word on the need for extensive Alzheimer’s research and for the cure. The plan is to leave Portugal on Tuesday and visit Sardinia, Italy. Sardinia is a “Blue Zone”

If you are an avid follower of fitness and health trends, you have probably heard the term “Blue Zones” before. Blue Zones describe the five regions of the world in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the U.S. that have the highest concentration of centenarians (people who live to 100+) in the world. Islands and locations where people forget to die.

    The five blue zones are:

    Icaria, Greece
    Ogliastra, Sardinia, Italy
    Okinawa, Japan
    Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
    Loma Linda, California

Being in Sardinia drives home the idea that as we live longer, we must insure that we have every benefit of mind, body and soul. A cure and awareness for Alzheimer’s and research is our and wish for society. I’m sure there will be many opportunities towards that goal for Ed and Zvi in Sardinia, Italy .

  2. Our Intrepid Aviators followed ATC’s instructions to fly high and fly far, well farther then a straight line from Portugal to Sardinia. Their route took them north east into some weather over the French/Spanish border then direct to Marseille then due south to the southern tip of Sardinia, all at almost 11000 feet and… with not to favorable winds!
Ed and Zvi are relaxing now, and we look forward to a new chapter on this journey
