We landed in Santa Maria, Azores yesterday in about nine hours and 15 minutes from St. Johns Newfoundland. We were able to divert around a tropical depression called Gaston off the Canary Islands thanks to our friend and incredibly great meteorologist Steve Pellettiere. The flight was uneventful.
Re-fueled on arrival at Santa Maria and pumped about 150 gallons of fuel, which gives us a range of about 19hrs. We do not have to refuel at every destination.
We stayed at a B&B overnight and were able to grab dinner about 8 PM at a local hang out joint. Consumed 2 pints local beer, chicken wings and a chicken dinner for US$14 each. Good place to retire.
Departed Santa Maria about 9:45 local time. Should be in Cascais, Portugal around 2:30 PM local today. Flight conditions: clear skies, 152 kts. with 8kt. head wind.
You guys are a magnificent inspiration to us all !
Godspeed!
Great adventure.
